When You’re the Only One Who Can See It:

You’re not imagining it, your light irritates their darkness.

There’s a certain kind of silence that hits when you walk into a room and the conversation dies. That awkward little “Hey, girl…” and the fake smile that doesn’t reach their eyes? Yeah, I see it. But more importantly — I discern it.

I used to think I was overreacting. Maybe I was too sensitive. Maybe I was making things up in my head. But the truth is, when you carry light, it irritates darkness. Period. It’s not your imagination. It’s your anointing.

Let me give you an example. One time, I was at a family event — and I love my people, don’t get me wrong — but something felt off. The moment I walked in, I felt this tension I couldn’t explain. You ever feel eyes on you, but when you turn around, it’s all smiles and potato salad? Yeah, that. I sat down and tried to engage, but my spirit was just unsettled. I couldn’t even enjoy the food — and you know I don’t play about my plate. That is the gift of discernment in action.

Later that night, I found out there had been a whole conversation about me before I got there. Judgments. Assumptions. All because I was doing things differently. Healing. Growing. Not living from trauma anymore. And that growth? It made some folks uncomfortable.

But I didn’t shrink. I said my goodbyes, got in my car, and turned my worship music up. Not because I was being extra, but because I knew I had protected my peace — and I wasn’t about to let anything disturb it. Because I’m not walking in with attitude — I’m walking in with authority.

God doesn’t give this level of discernment so to be popular. He gives it to me to protect your peace, to pray ahead, and to see what others won’t say. And it’s lonely sometimes. When you know stuff you can’t un-know. When you feel things that nobody else seems to notice. When everyone’s laughing — and you’re quiet, because your spirit caught something they missed. THAT is discernment!

But here’s what I want you to know if this is you too: You are not imagining it. You are not too sensitive. You are not dramatic. You are discerning. And it’s a gift. A holy, often misunderstood, sometimes heavy gift. But it is from God, and He trusts you with it.

So, keep showing up. Keep walking in rooms. Keep being who God made you to be. Because being “the only one who can see it” doesn’t mean you’re crazy. It means you’re called. And the more you embrace that, the less you’ll feel the need to apologize for it.

Let me know if this helped you in the comments. Stay in peace,

Candace.
